On Thursday, 27 November 2025, NRP 79 is organising a symposium entitled "Phasing out animal research". This will be followed by a public science café on the topic. Mark your calendars!

The topic of phasing out animal experiments or advancing 3Rs is gaining in importance – in the USA, in the EU as well as in Switzerland. What do these international and European developments mean for Switzerland, and how can research contribute to this debate? Does Switzerland need an exit plan?

These and other questions will be the focus of a scientific symposium on Thursday, 27 November 2025 in Bern. The event will take place at the PROGR cultural centre and will look beyond the National Research Programme "Advancing 3R – Animals, Research and Society" (NRP 79) to future developments in the field of animal experiments and 3R research. Experts from various disciplines will discuss the results, opportunities and challenges.

The scientific symposium will be followed by a public science café in the evening, organised jointly with Science et Cité. This event is aimed at a wide audience.

Mark your calendars! An official invitation with further details will follow after the summer holidays.

We look forward to welcoming you at the PROGR in Bern in November.
